FAQ

Q: How much do they cost?

A: Good Question. The answer is variable. The key to effective sealing is creating an individual solution for each application. Because in most cases we are custom making the solution the price can vary and depends on 3 variables – length of the bearing to properly retrofit your stuffing box, type of polymer to be used, type of packing to be used. In a broad sense our products cost more than plain packing and less than mechanical seals.

Q: Isn't this just a bushing?

A: No, bushings are made from lesser materials , such as PTFE, and serve as non-contact spacers. Contact with a shaft fails bushings very quickly. Our patented  PackRyt® Systems utilize various grades of SealRyt’s own bearing polymers and literally demand contact. This contact is what limits shaft movement to a few thousandths. Eliminating shaft movement is crucial to increasing MTBF.

Visit our Bushing vs Bearing page for more information.

Q: How does this compare to EnviroSeal SpiralTrac™?

A: Spiral Trac is a bushing that spaces packing off the bottom of the box and directs water flow to counter process fluids. It does not survive shaft contact.

Q: What's the clearance to the shaft sleeve?

A: Very close. Run-out allowance is usually less than what the factory roller bearings allow.

Q: I want to order a portion of my quote. Which part numbers should I use?

A: Please call us and we can look up part numbers for partial orders based on SealRyt's quote number. Call: 413-564-5202

Q: How much seal water does the seal need?

A: Seal water to process depends on process pressure to seal water pressure differential. It also depends on clearances between the bearing and shaft. The bearing only needs to be kept clean in the contact area which requires only a thin film of water, air, nitrogen, glycol, etc. The reduction of flush media is inherent in the technology.

Q: What kind of material is the bearing made of?

A: SealRyt® selects the proper polymer for your application and varies according to chemistry and thermal conditions. SealRyt develops its own polymers and utilizes all known base resins plus various admixtures to do so.

Q: How tight should I tighten the gland?

A: It depends. Please contact our Technical Services Division or see our Resources page.

Q: What can you use for a flush medium?

A: Water, air, nitrogen, and more. We recommend calling and talking with one of our engineers. Oil and petroleums are not recommended.

Questions? Ask our Engineers.

SealRyt Corp. is the industry leader in rotating shaft sealing technology. Our engineers have years of experience in the science of sealing. That's why we hold multiple patents on sealing technology. That's also why our products last longer, get better results, and simply seal better than any other products available.
